Help ons het Prostitutie Informatie Centrum open te houden!

Het Prostitutie Informatie Centrum (PIC) is in 1994 opgericht door toenmalig sekswerker Mariska Majoor. Het is een uniek pareltje op de Amsterdamse Wallen, gerund door sekswerkers, met het doel om vooroordelen over sekswerk tegen te gaan.

Dit jaar vieren wij onze 30ste verjaardag en we zouden dolgraag open willen blijven om ons werk voort te kunnen zetten. Jouw gift (verjaardagskadootje?) kan ons daarbij helpen!

De eigenaar van ons pand, Stadsherstel, wil de ruimte verkopen. Ze hebben geen alternatief beschikbaar en het PIC - een kleine non-profit organisatie gerund door sekswerkers en zonder gemeentesubsidie - heeft niet de inkomsten om het over te kopen of een commerciële ruimte in de buurt te huren.

Het PIC biedt gratis informatie aan bezoekers over de Wallen en sekswerk in Nederland, huisvest een archief over sekswerk en vormt een gemeenschapscentrum voor sekswerkers zelf. De afgelopen 30 jaar heeft dit kleine centrum vele tienduizenden bezoekers te woord gestaan. Dit zijn vaak toeristen, studenten en onderzoekers maar ook buurtgenoten, klanten, sekswerkers zelf, hulpverleners, journalisten, ambtenaren en politici. Ook onderhouden wij ons mooie standbeeld van sekswerker Belle op het Oudekerksplein.

Het PIC vergaart inkomsten uit donaties van bezoekers, verkoop van boeken, T-shirts en andere - grotendeels unieke - merchandise en betaalde lezingen en workshops in het PIC. Hiermee weet het PIC de eigen broek op te houden, maar het is geen vetpot.

Het team van het PIC is nu op zoek naar fondsen - filantropie, gemeente, enz - om de huidige ruimte over te kopen van Stadsherstel. Help jij ons met een verjaardagskadootje?

The Prostitution Information Centre (PIC) was founded in 1994 by sex worker Mariska Majoor. It is a unique gem in the Amsterdam Red Light District, run by sex workers, with the aim to counter sex work stigma.

This year we celebrate our 30th anniversary and would love to stay open to continue our work. Your donation (birthday present?) could help us do just that!

The owner of our building, Stadsherstel, wants to sell the space. They have no alternative available and the PIC - a small non-profit community organisation without municipal subsidy - does not have the income to buy it or rent a commercial space nearby.

The PIC provides free information to visitors about the Red Light District and sex work in the Netherlands, houses an archive on sex work and is a community centre for sex workers themselves. Over the past 30 years, this small centre has served many tens of thousands of visitors. These are often tourists, students and researchers but also locals, clients, sex workers themselves, aid workers, journalists, civil servants and politicians. We also maintain our beautiful statue of sex worker Belle on the Oudekerksplein.

The PIC gets its income from visitors' tips and donations, sales of books, T-shirts and other - largely unique - merchandise and paid lectures and workshops at the PIC. We manage to pay the bills, but not much more than that.

The PIC team is now looking for funds - philanthropy, municipality, etc - to buy its current space from Stadsherstel. Will you help us with a birthday present?
