Hi there,
My name is Onyx and I am a 9-year-old lab-mix. Two weeks ago I learned I have cancer and, a few days later, the doctors said my front right leg had to be amputated. It all happened so fast.
I have been with the Lima-Pereira family since I was just 3 months old. I still remember when they came to the adoption center back in 2012. The truth of the matter is that I chose Carol, not the other way around.
For nine years a lived a pretty good life. I would go for runs with my human mom, mountain biking with my human dad, hiking, and swimming at the lake with the family. I would also run endlessly from Lucca, my 3-year-old human brother.
About 3 weeks ago, I started to feel some pain in my front right paw. Carol called my Vet for a consult. I could tell Carol was very nervous.
Whatever the doctor told Carol made her cry. She cried for days and every time she passed by me she would say "I love you buddy and we are going to get you well". Something was up, I could smell it.
I saw many other doctors and they all confirmed I have this thing called Osteosarcoma. It is a type of bone cancer, I was told.
The treatment is the amputation of my front right leg.
Carol and Junior were devastated. Lucca kept putting band-aids on my leg and assuring me I am going to get better.
My surgery is scheduled for March 2021.
I have been doing my best to run around on my three good legs even before the surgery. That put a smile on Carol's face. I got her to understand I will be fine.
After the surgery, I will have to go through a battery of chemotherapy, to stop the spread of cancer.
As you can imagine, my leg amputation and the chemotherapy sessions cost a lot of money. And here I am, with my soon-to-be three legs, asking you to help my family foot this bill (no pun intended).
