Let’s get these trails open so we can ride!!

People ask me everyday, how can I help.

We’ve largely finished clearing roads in Old Fort and utilities crews are working on water, sewer, and electricity. Clean up crews continue to remove debris and silt piles. Volunteers hand out water, food, supplies by the pallet load. Today Jeremy will be clearing landslides behind houses. This recovery will take years and we’ll need to get away from the work and refresh our minds on the trail.

Next up, clearing trails.

We volunteer as much as possible (100+ hrs last week), but without income from shuttles, the well will eventually run dry.

Jeremy is a C-sawyer for the USFS, Trail Crew Leader for The G5 Trail Collective and runs the McDowell Tech Trail School here in Old Fort. Additionally, he builds trails professionally along with Appalachian Land Stewards.

Once given the go ahead from the Forest Manager, we’ll be out on the trail with saws and hoes to bring these trails back to life. We’ll need other volunteers to come out as well. Swampers, certified sawyers, and anyone who wants to repair tread or clear debris. We’ll also need gas, oil mix, bar oil, chainsaw chains, diesel for excavator and other machines, and more…
