Help OPIS Prevent Intense Suffering

OPIS Summer 2020 Fundraiser
OPIS is a Swiss-based think-and-do tank dedicated to the prevention of intense suffering of all sentient beings – the most urgent issue there is. We focus on specific sources of intense suffering and on promoting compassionate ethics in decision-making. One of our main projects to date has been promoting access to morphine for terminal cancer patients in lower-income countries. We crowdfunded and co-organised a national conference last year in Burkina Faso with the Health Ministry and our local partner – you can read about it in this new article . We are now also focusing on relieving the pain of cluster headaches, one of the most excruciating conditions known to medicine – you can read more about it here and also learn more about our current initiative in this presentation.
A summary of our main projects at the moment:
Cluster “suicide” headaches: relieving the pain of one of the most excruciating
medical conditions
- Continue with our initiative in Finland to lobby the government to facilitate access to effective treatments
- Work with other countries to change legislation
- Write and disseminate a global white paper on treating cluster headaches
- Create a comprehensive guide for patients
Access to morphine for terminal cancer patients in lower-income countries
- Support efforts by local champions in lower-income countries
Animal abuse: advocating for an end to the torture
- Fight ag-gag laws that prohibit investigations of abuse, in collaboration with partner organisations
- Advocate for an end to factory farming and the torture of non-human animals
Ethical governance: putting compassion into decision-making
structures
- Write and disseminate a global white paper/manifesto for ethical governance based on preventing suffering
- Workshops and new initiatives for ethical, participatory decision-making
You can read more details about these activities and others in our July 2020 newsletter.
We are dependent on private donations to run our projects and are very grateful for your support. Please also share this campaign with others!
