In 2017, we started our business on the cornerstone that quality food should never be thought of as a luxury. While our protein sources are of the highest quality in relation to feeding, welfare, environmental impact and humaneness, we have continued to keep our prices affordable to the everyday consumer. We want to fight the idea that only those at the top can eat high-quality, well-raised meat products. We believe that quality and care shouldn't come with a price tag, that we ALL deserve proper food sources.
For almost four years now I have run this small family business entirely on my own, with the help of family and friends. Higher quality animals result in higher price tags and I have always remained true to our mission that working with these farmers and showcasing their animals is, above all else, what this business stands for. However, this is where I'll be upfront and blatantly honest; whole carcass butchery with this quality of animal is incredibly challenging to maintain. The margins can be quite challenging to manage and without increasing the prices to ridiculous amounts for our customers it can be a challenge to sustain and grow and build.
We spent the past three years working out of a shared co-op space in Omaha without a true retail presence, but it allowed us to keep our overhead costs low and maintain these quality standards alongside manageable price points. However, in 2021 we've finally made the leap and found a space of our own to call home in Lincoln. This opportunity not only provides us with a chance to be closer to home and family, but it also gives us our first chance to have a retail storefront operation where customers can come by daily. To have the chance to interact, sharing knowledge and open transparency about all the animals we are so very fortunate to work with.
We are no frills, no gimmicks, no high end bells and whistles with costs that end up making their way into your food. Because food shouldn't be about luxury, or about who gets to eat higher on hog, it should be about keeping ourselves and our families well-fed from sources that we trust.
We simply need your help in continuing to push this dream further. To purchase new pieces of refrigeration and meat processing equipment for our shop, allowing us to finally have the opportunity to make this dream what we've always known it could be. By donating you'll have helped us get that boost we need, to continue to support our local farmers that are choosing to reach deep into their own pockets to ensure they are going against the trend of “moneymaking agriculture” and spend what is required to properly feed and care for quality animals.
All too often the idea of what food actually costs to produce properly is lost on us and cheap food becomes too easy and too accessible, damaging our health, our local communities and our environment in the process. We are here to fight back, to provide for you; the individual, the family, the community.
