Help our 7th graders quench their thirst to help others!

My name is Melanie Giancaterino and I am a Middle School teacher at Bache-Martin. My students and I have been reading about the refugee experience for two school years now and have been greatly moved and inspired by the stories we have read. We have learned about the "Lost Boys of Sudan" through the novel, The Long Walk to Water, and decided to try and raise enough money that will provide clean water to 300 people. We only need $600 to achieve this goal. Anything beyond that will help more people than we originally planned.

According to https://www.waterforsouthsudan.org/, Five million people in South Sudan live without daily access to safe water and sanitation services. Children, often girls, spend their days walking for water. They walk an average of 3.7 miles per trip. Sometimes they make multiple trips to obtain water, carrying up to 40 pounds (18 kgs) of water each time. Only ten percent of people in South Sudan have access to basic sanitation services.

A small donation can certainly help us help others. We have been feeling so grateful for all that we have and just want to help the people we have been reading about for the past two school years. Any donation is appreciated.

We will send the funds donated through Salva's website, waterforsudan.org.
