Help our cats the rescue turned their backs on

Hi, I'm Tracy and I work full time as a teaching assistant in an autism specialist school. I was a fosterer for Yarm Cat Rescue. My journey started in August 2018 when I joined the rescue eager to help abandoned cats and kittens. All went smoothly for the first year, cats came in, we're vet checked, neutered, vaccinated, micorchipped and rehomed. Then I helped another fosterer and took in 4 kittens that, unknown to me, had cat flu. One of these is still with me, Zander, because she has never recovered from calici virus, herpes, microplasma and bordatella. She has had many vet visits, swabbed, given antibiotics and steroids and now lives with flare ups and scarring on her lungs and airways due to the flus she has. Following that in 2020 we took 3 more kittens from the same fosterer and again brought cat flu in the house unknowingly. At this point I had to close the doors to cats and kittens coming in to contain this and prevent further spread. At the point of closure I had 24 cats, including my own, in the house. I don't adopt out cats that are knowingly ill and the rescue agreed that none could go until we knew what was going on. We had further vets visits with various cats having swabs and always the same results coming back. The vets said best to do bloods for underlying conditions that could be causing the flare ups. The rescue didn't want to do this. I now had cats that between them had all 5 variants of cat flu. Many if which were on a mix of anti biotics, steroids and pain relief. Over the last few years I have managed to settle the lifestyles of the cats I have which has minimised flare ups and the necessity to give them treatment. There are now 21 cats, as some have sadly passed away, including my own. They have the run of the house, side sheds and a catio (which is being extended next year) The rescue have now decided if I don't put these cats up for adoption I'm on my own! Claiming they don't have flu! Zander went back to the vets at the end of November and the vet said no point in medicating. This will flare again and unless she became worse she didn't need to go back. I'm using Zander as an example but many others are the same. So I am now left to feed, litter and medicate these cats on my own and appealing for people to help no matter how small, it all helps. I will be providing receipts to show where the money raised is spent. We will also be completing some sponsored bike rides to help raise extra funds. These cats deserve the best life they can have and are all a part of our family.
