The Heart of Leiria's Fencing in Ruins

The Academia de Esgrima do Lis, in Leiria, is more than just a club; it is the home of 40 plus dedicated athletes, including national champions and young talents who represent Portugal on the highest international stages, such as the European and World Championships. It is a center of sporting excellence and a pillar of the local community.

However, the devastating passage of Storm Kristin has turned our training space into a scene of destruction.

The Devastation of the Fencing Hall

The Fencing Hall, where the sound of blades echoed daily, has been completely destroyed. The impact of the storm was brutal:

• Missing Roof: The roof structure was torn off, exposing the entire interior to the elements.

• Critical Infrastructure Lost: The hall is without water, electricity, and with totally compromised electrical and plumbing systems.

• Structural Damage: The integrity of the building has been severely affected.

Fortunately, our essential fencing equipment (signaling units and reels) suffered only aesthetic damage and remains functional. Our biggest and most urgent challenge is the reconstruction of the infrastructure.

The Impact on Our Athletes

With the Fencing Hall out of operation, 40 plus athletes are left without a place to train. These young people, who dedicate their lives to fencing and carry Portugal's name abroad, have seen their preparation and sporting future put at risk.

Fencing requires a specific and safe space. Without our Hall, training is cancelled, and maintaining a high-performance level is impossible. The dream of representing Portugal is on hold.

The Academia de Esgrima do Lis is the direct beneficiary of this campaign, ensuring that every cent will be applied to the recovery of the Fencing Hall.

Structural Reconstruction - Repair and installation of a new roof, walls, and insulation.

Essential Infrastructure - Total replacement of electricity, water, and lighting networks.

Space Rehabilitation - Repair of floors, locker rooms, and common areas.

Operational Costs - Rental of temporary training spaces and urgent administrative costs.

A Academia de Esgrima do Lis, em Leiria, é mais do que um clube; é o lar de mais de 40 atletas dedicados, incluindo campeões nacionais e jovens talentos que representam Portugal nos mais altos palcos internacionais, como os Campeonatos da Europa e do Mundo. É um centro de excelência desportiva e um pilar da comunidade local.

No entanto, a passagem devastadora da Depressão Kristin transformou o nosso espaço de treino num cenário de destruição.

A Devastação da Sala de Armas

A Sala de Armas, onde o som das espadas ecoava diariamente, foi completamente destruída. O impacto da tempestade foi brutal:

* Telhado Inexistente: A estrutura do telhado foi arrancada, expondo todo o interior aos elementos.

* Infraestruturas Críticas Perdidas: A Sala de Armas ficou sem água, sem luz e com os sistemas elétricos e de canalização totalmente comprometidos.

* Danos Estruturais: A integridade do edifício foi severamente afetada.

Felizmente, o nosso equipamento de esgrima essencial (sinalizadores e enroladores) sofreu apenas danos estéticos e mantém-se funcional. O nosso maior desafio, e o mais urgente, é a reconstrução da infraestrutura.

O Impacto nos Nossos Atletas

Com a Sala de Armas inoperacional, mais de 40 atletas ficaram sem espaço para treinar. Estes jovens, que dedicam as suas vidas à esgrima e que carregam o nome de Portugal além-fronteiras, viram a sua preparação e o seu futuro desportivo em risco.

A esgrima exige um espaço específico e seguro. Sem a nossa Sala de Armas, os treinos estão cancelados, e a capacidade de manter o nível de alta competição é impossível. O sonho de representar Portugal está suspenso.

A Academia de Esgrima do Lis é a beneficiária direta desta campanha, garantindo que cada cêntimo será aplicado na recuperação da Sala de Armas.

Reabilitação do Espaço - Reparação de pavimentos, balneários e áreas comuns.
