Last fall our world turned upside down. Our dad, Dave Locklear was rushed to the ICU in an ambulance. We knew his only kidney was failing, but we had no idea how serious the situation was until we received the devastating news that he had double pneumonia in his lungs with massive fluid buildup and his kidney was too far gone for treatment. We watched in horror as our dad battled for his life for almost two weeks. We were terrified that we might lose him.
Thankfully, the doctors were able to stabilize him this time, but we have run out of options for treatment and our dad has been on dialysis for 11 months, four times a week, 4 hours a time. He has been back in the hospital 10 times and has had several trips to the ER/ICU and urgent care. The cost of his medical care has already exceeded 2,5 million dollars, and there is much more to come. We have been doing everything we can to help him, but it has been a tough road both mentally and financially for our family.
Our dad is a fighter, and he has been battling kidney failure with everything he has. We have been hoping to find a donor as the wait list for a kidney is currently 5-7 years. He recently had another surgery which will allow him to have dialysis at home however, it is still 13 hours a day 7 days a week he'll be hooked up to a life support machine. As you can imagine it will still make it difficult to leave the house and live anything close to a normal life. We are continually praying for a kidney donor and a miracle. He has been unable to work since January of 2022 which has made things even tougher for him and our family.
We are reaching out to our community, friends, and family for help in raising funds for his medical expenses. We are hoping to raise $100,000 to cover the expenses associated with the transplant and recovery period. It is a big goal, but we believe that with your help, we can make it happen.
