HELP OUR FAMILY SECURE JUSTICE FOR DOUGIE.

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ricky Hampson Snr.
We are asking for your help in attending a coronial inquest into the death our son, Ricky ‘Dougie’ Hampson Jr, who was loved by many when he died at just 36 years of age.

Two years ago, Dougie went to Dubbo Base Hospital with severe “popping” and “tearing” pains in his stomach, he reported a ten out of ten pain level and had a heart rate of 120-130bpm for most of his time in hospital.

Instead of receiving proper medical care, Dougie was treated with racial bias, because he was an Aboriginal man whose rough looks, casual marijuana smoking, and tattoos on his hands made him a target for discrimination.

The hospital released him after 19 hours of pain, told him to go home and drink water, without any type of imaging to find the cause of the pain. He didn't even last 24 hours, dying of perforated duodenal ulcers.

From 26 February – 8 March 2024, we will be attending a coronial inquest into our boy’s death. Nothing will bring back our son, but this is our chance to secure answers about what happened to Dougie.

We hope the inquest will reveal what led to our son being denied the diagnosis and treatment he deserved at hospital, and why he was treated with bias.

Our family will be travelling from Yass to Dubbo (NSW) to attend the inquest for two weeks. If you’re able to help cover the costs of accommodation, food and transport for Dougie's family, please chip in to the fund.

We will donate any extra funds that we don’t use to the National Justice Project, the human rights law firm representing our family during the inquest. The National Justice Project helps other families like ours in discrimination cases and coronial inquests.

During the inquest, we will be calling for justice and accountability, because we want to make sure no other family has to go through what we have been through.

This inquest is so important, not just to give our family the answers we deserve, but to make change in the country's health system. So many of our people continue to die from avoidable deaths, and no one has ever been held accountable.
