Help our friend Brian Mayfield and his family

Hey everyone, I’ve started this GoFundMe page for our friend Brian Mayfield. As some of you may already know, Brian was involved in an incident back at the end of April where he sustained very serious injuries to his head.

Initial CT scans in the hospital showed two different brain hemorrhages, along with a long list of skull fractures along the right side of his head, his orbital, nose, and more… The neurosurgeon team and trauma team have both told him he’s lucky to be alive.

Brian's recovery these past 6-8 weeks has been stressful for his family, and friends, to say the least. Recovery from Traumatic Brain Injuries or TBI’s can be unpredictable and at times a frustrating process.

Now, I’ve been asked by many of you if he has a GoFundMe, or a way to help, which leads me to the main reason I’ve created this: While we can’t do much but cheer Brian on while his mind and body heal, we can help lighten the financial burden this has put on Brian and his wife, Lu…

Since Brian and Lu had been living in Argentina, Brian had no need for health insurance in the US. This accident happened in Houston, TX while Brian was visiting friends - meaning Brian and Lu are having to take all of this on without assistance. They were also in the process of traveling and working remotely at the time. This has led to numerous unplanned major expenses such as international flights, backing out of rentals, last-minute moves, and more.

On top of this, it is uncertain what, if anything they will be receiving from the guilty party at fault for his injuries.

Between medical bills (past and ongoing), navigating living situations, and Brian co-owning a startup company that he had to step away from for a period, (and is only able to give about 50% effort at the moment), Brian and Lu’s expenses are piling up a bit. While Brian initially turned down the idea of a GoFundMe as he didn’t want to “burden” anyone else, I know this will help them make a dent in their expenses, and I know Brian and Lu will appreciate any bit of help we can get them.

Luckily, Brian has been making tons of progress! While he couldn't walk without a walker a month ago, or even hold a conversation longer than 5 minutes, he’s now moving around well and even easing back into work life (heck, some of you who have met with him recently may not have even noticed!).

Feel free to message me directly if you have any questions regarding details surrounding the incident, Brian’s recovery, contact info for Lu - anything!
