Help our friend Kenny Holcomb

Friends and family of Kenny Holcomb,

I worked with Kenny a long time at Random House Children's Books in New York. He's been back home in Nashville a few years, and has struggled for a while with medical bills, high health insurance costs, and a decline in his ability to work because of his Type 2 diabetes. I asked him to explain, and here's what he said:
***
I’ve had 6 surgeries from 2016-2019 that resulted in 4 amputations on my foot. In 2018, I lost the top 3rd of my foot. All due to complications from type 2 diabetes. My eyesight is also declining. I can’t look at a computer screen for very long. The 2 surgeries I had this year were because of my diabetes, I have infections in my system that lay dormant till my system gets run down. This past infection in Nov, I had 3 different very bad strains, one which included MRSA.

Kenny's $224,000 hospital bill was mercifully reduced to $6,000, but as part of the deal, he had to take out a loan in order to make monthly payments of $136.

He's a very talented designer--and now he can't work because he can't sit or stand for long periods, in addition to his eyesight decline. In October, he was approved for disability. He had no health insurance for most of 2019, when things got really bad.

Thankfully, he now has health insurance, and disability has reduced his monthly premium to $230, but that's not easy to meet when his only income is from disability.

So. I'm asking you--everyone who knows him and loves him--if you can help in some way. Every little bit counts. It all adds up. Let's help him pay off that $6K hospital bill outright, and let's help him tackle that health insurance premium. He has other ongoing medical expenses, as you can imagine for his condition, and no way to work to bring in more income.

We can do this. Help if you can with whatever you can, and share the link to this fund widely. Gofundme now has a tip option, which helps with the fund's administrative costs. That allows for more money to go directly to Kenny.

Note: I haven't worked out the logistics yet for how the money will reach Kenny--whether the fund is attached to my bank account and I wire him the money or I connect the fund to his bank account. I want to make it as easy as possible for him. But trust that it will all go to him, and I will be very transparent about that. Feel free to email me through the site and I'll answer any questions you might have.

*Remember to share the link with anyone who can help and in as many places as you can.*

Thank you.

Debbie
