Help our friends Fernanda & Dustin
Donation protected
Since 2009, our beloved friends Fernanda and Dustin Paulsen have been stewards of a beautiful piece of land on Pohoiki road on the Big Island of Hawaii. Over the years they turned the raw and rugged land into an abundant off grid homestead with farm animals, orchards, gardens, bee hives and a home that they built with their own hands. They have two beautiful daughters Anabella and Yara (5 and 3).
On Saturday May 19, 2018 the lava river from the recent Leilani eruption covered their land and home. The hundreds of hours spent tending to their gardens and fruit trees have been burned and buried by black earth.
My name is Melina and I meet Fernanda 9 years ago when we both came to Hawai'i for the first time to do a volunteer program. We both decided to stay in Hawai'i and start a new life here. It was then when she met her husband Dustin. We have been friends ever since and I love them both to pieces. Over the years, I have been a witness of the ever growing love and dedication towards eachother, their home and their two girls.
"Today the lava flow took our farm and our home! It is so hard to believe... Almost 10 years of sweat and tears vanished and covered with lava! I pray for acceptance, I pray for clarity and I pray we can rise from the ashes like the Phoenix! I’m so heartbroken.... My husband was there and he was able to see it with his own eyes... please hold us tight in your hearts as we navigate through this hard time! My dear friend set up a gofund account to help us get by this intense period, please consider donating if you can, our financial options are very limited, we appreciate all the help and love coming our way! Mahalo from the bottom of our hearts! Aloha!"

While this money will not get their homestead back, it will at least help them with their immediate expenses. They will use this money to rent a house so their family can be together which will require a deposit, first and last month's rent. They still have to make mortgage payments on the land so this money will help with that as well (they did not have insurance on their house). They can also use some of this money as a down payment for a new piece of land. This money will be deposited directly on Fernanda's bank account and she will be able to withdraw from it as soon as a donation is made.
Please consider donating to help this young family get back on their feet.
Thank you so much in advance for your support. To help me get the word out, you can share my link to your Facebook Timeline.
Aloha!
