Help Our Friends Recover from a Devastating House Fire

On Monday October 7, an enormous fire destroyed three houses in the Strathcona neighbourhood in Vancouver, BC. Our friends Ryan Clough-Carroll, Soloman Chiniquay, Hamish Hardie, and Brit Bachmann lost their home and all of their possessions in this fire. There was a sudden explosion next door that left them with no time to collect anything besides their cat, before evacuating their home. All their clothing, valuables, heirlooms and sentimental items have been lost. This included losing their computers, laptops and harddrives where they stored their work, along with the valuable equipment that they depend on to make a living in the arts.

Sol is a filmmaker, artist and photographer who lost his filmmaking equipment, collection of cameras, and archive of work including film negatives, photo prints, motion picture film and hard drives.

Brit is an arts worker, ceramicist and artist who lost her ceramics, supplies, portfolio of artworks, as well her latest collection of pottery which she had prepared to sell at the upcoming Eastside Culture Crawl.

Ryan is an arts worker, musician, filmmaker and artist, who lost his portfolio of paintings, works in progress, painting supplies, instruments, writing and recordings.

Hamish is an arts worker and writer who has lost his collected works, and reference material for his writing project. This archive contained years of writing, ideas, and personal reflections that cannot be replaced.

Though they have attempted to get tenants insurance in the past, due to the number of tenants in their suite, they were unable to qualify for insurance. We are hoping to raise as much as possible to ensure all four can get through this difficult time to find new housing, and begin to replace the insurmountable loss. No donation is too little and we hope you can share this campaign as much as possible.
