About Our Hugh

Hugh Ernst Fitzpatrick is 1 of 8 kids of an Apollo-era NASA Engineer and a mystery-loving Writer-Homemaker. He grew up on popular art & culture and rock & roll music of all types.

His love of music led him to a life as a guitarist. Cover bands, Christian rock bands. As the bass player in those bar bands Hugh was the occasional groovemaker. He would have a lifelong creative obsession with songwriting.

Lived in Kansas City, Huntsville, South Houston, San Antonio, Houston Heights and recently Topeka.

He would marry for love twice. That love would bring to this world Bryan Fitzpatrick, Briana Fitzpatrick Perea, Dylan Fitzpatrick and Estevan Fitzpatrick. All of whom he loves very much.

Most of his working years he was a sign designer, engineer, and installer. While his kids were school age, he remained a stay-at-home dad.

Now 70, he is Dad to 4, Grandpa to 2, Brother to 7, Uncle to 16. Hugh Fitzpatrick, raised Catholic, is a believer.

The guy is open and friendly; I swear Hugh likes everyone he ever met. And everybody likes Hugh, he is a regular guy, one of us.

Diagnosis

Hugh was diagnosed with an incurable brain disease January 2019. Through no fault of lifestyle, no mistake on his part, Hugh got the worst disease ever.

Alzheimer’s chases its victims through obscure genetics. We are all in that same genetics pool so there but for the grace of God, go we.

For these last two years, Bryan & Melanie & Kiera have bravely taken him into their home. As time goes on and Hugh declines, it becomes more and more difficult for them to give Hugh the care he needs with the dignity he deserves.

Personal care for victims of Alzheimer’s is expensive and not covered by Medicare.

Friends and family are coming together to give what support they can afford.

Your donation will pay for hired help for them. Days at a local adult daycare house lets Hugh get out, some enrichment for him, hopefully as often as three times a week. It helps his loving 24/7 caretakers at home get a break.

In the near future, Hugh may need to live full-time in a Memory Care Facility where experts can take care of him. Also not covered by insurance.
