Last Friday the 17th January 2025 - 12 year old Jett was out enjoying his brand new electric scooter not far from his home when he was struck and run over by a truck causing significant critical injuries. Jett was rushed by air from Airlie Beach to Townsville hospital for emergency surgery and ICU treatment and has a long challenging road ahead to complete recovery.
Jett sustained extensive injuries including the loss of his right big toe (which thankfully was able to be reattached), a fractured femur, fractured arm and a substantial amount of skin ripped from his young body too! This traumatic experience continues to cause immense physical pain for Jett and emotional stress for his family. Jett will continue to undergo intensive medical treatment for the foreseeable future and may involve further surgery, rehabilitation, and ongoing care.
Life is fragile and can change in an instant.. Jett was about to begin on a brand new adventure starting High School in Airlie Beach yet now unable to as he remains in hospital. Following the initial shock of the call no parents would ever want to receive with his Dad already at his side, Jett’s Mum Jade and Grammy Leah started the long journey from Inverell, Northern NSW to Townsville.. 1500+km away! Which is where they will remain with Jetty for as long as they need too.
The Tollis Family are doing their very best to ensure Jett is receiving everything he needs for a full physical and emotional recovery. The family have been overwhelmed by well wishes and healing thoughts for Jett - and we know that along with those wishes some would like to know how they may be able to help.
We are hopeful to raise some funds to be able to assist with the costs that come with being away from the comforts of home - accomodation, meals, general living expenses as well as the ongoing medical expenses that MAY come Jett’s way (including but not limited to: medications, equipment hire, physical therapy and allied health as well as ongoing doctor visits). We would also love to be able get Jett’s little sister Dakoda up to Townsville as well so they can be together as a family.
Thankyou for taking the time to read Jett’s story - your kindness and even the smallest gesture can make a world of difference.
