Help Our Mom Beat Cancer: Donate for Travel Costs

About two weeks ago, my sister Mallory and I were blindsided by a phone call from our mom – she shared news we never expected to hear: she was diagnosed with a intra~hepatic cholangiocarcioma.

Over the past four years, our mom had sought numerous evaluations for her complaints. Despite countless scans, doctors reassured her there was no need for further testing. However, in February of this year, on a random scan for other purposes, the same area she questioned for many years, was suspected to be cancerous.

Our mom took matters into her own hands and sought evaluation at Barnes Hospital and biopsy confirmed our fears. The cancer does appear to be solely confined to the liver. Since receiving this news mom has been working diligently to get all the information necessary to fight off this cancer.

After an extensive trip to MD Anderson in Texas with our dad and grandma, our mom has placed her trust in the expertise of the doctors and surgeons there. On April 25th, our family's rock and glue – the one who keeps us together – will undergo a major, life-altering surgery in Texas. The medical team has advised a two-week post-surgery recovery period in the area, necessitating travel, accommodations, meals for both our mom and dad during their stay. She will also have follow up every 3 months for a period of time following surgery.

No one can truly prepare for such a challenge. Mallory, myself, and our dad – who've been together since their teenage years – are determined to do everything in our power to ease our mom's journey through this difficult time.
