Dear Friends and Community,

We are writing to ask for your help. Our mother, Kim, suffered multiple strokes last week and needs the support of all of our friends, family and community to get back on her feet. Our mom is uninsured in Texas, working class, and like all of us, suffered in many ways during the pandemic. She has been self-employed for over 20 years and lost more than 60% of her monthly income due to the social and economic toll of COVID-19. As a result, she has lived paycheck-to-paycheck these two years, further straining her isolation as a single woman without health insurance and a financial safety net.

On September 25th, she suffered multiple strokes that resulted in damage to her right hand, leg, face and as well as her voice. She has a strong will to recover and is making small daily strides. We are seeking the help of our friends, family and the greater community to get through the next six months while she heals and adjusts to this next chapter of life. These next few months are critical for her as she is at high risk for another stroke.

We are seeking $49,000 to help with the following needs:

Medical-related expenses to ensure that she can access critical life-saving health care.
Monthly living expenses for the next 6 months.
Expenses incurred in making her home ready for her to return safely with physical assistance.
