Help Our Mom Rebuild After Fire

Donation protected
On January 3rd, my mother, Lisa Michelle, lost her home and practically everything she owns in a fire.

While we grieve the loss of the first home she owned, antique furniture that has been in the family for generations, precious mementos, clothes, and items needed for daily living, we celebrate the faithfulness and providence of God who allowed her and my niece to escape with the most important thing—their lives.

They broke a bedroom window and took a nearly five-foot jump out of the house. My niece was able to run across the street to call 911, but the damage to the home was already too great. Despite some cuts and being shaken up, my niece is physically okay.

After review from medical professionals, my mother was immediately intubated and airlifted to the burn center in Augusta to be treated for potential burns to her airway.

If you know my mother, you know that she’s an angel among us. She is the kindest, most loving, most selfless person you could meet. In addition to raising two children she did not give birth to, she has helped countless family members and friends in ways even I am not completely aware of. She has been a godmother and mother figure to several cousins, young colleagues, and young parents trying to figure things out. She has sacrificed money, time, peace, and even rest to show up for other people.

She dutifully cared for her late mother and late husband until their transition to eternity, even when it cost her attention to her own health. She is a loving daughter, supportive mother, a doting grandmother, a committed team member, and the best kind of friend.

My mom is a strong woman, a humble woman, a kind woman, and a giving woman who has helped—and will continue to help—so many.

Now, she needs help.

The days ahead will have their challenges as she recovers physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially from this tragedy.

Even after she overcomes the present difficulties with breathing due to smoke inhalation, she will still be faced with rebuilding her life and addressing the trauma of the event.

In addition to prayer, monetary contributions are the best way to assist.

Whatever your reason for giving is, we thank you. Whatever amount you’re able to give, we appreciate you. All in all, God bless you.
