UPDATE as of 07/17/2022
We were given the unfortunate news that the new kidney is not responding to the treatment plan. The rejection is far more extreme than the doctors had anticipated. This heartbreaking news is devastating. This was not what we wanted to hear from the doctors. Our hopes, our prayers, were they heard?...
Our Mom feels as though she did something wrong for the new kidney to not function. We remind her that she is a strong person and did not do anything to deserve this. We are all here for her every step of the way.

On February 14, 2019 – our Mom was diagnosed with Renal Failure (Kidney Disease/Failure). For over three years, she went through Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis. Throughout the years of dialysis, it took strength and energy from her body to consistently have a machine assist her kidney functions. Our Mom has gone through many obstacles during these challenging times. She has had monthly blood transfusions, ulcers that grew within the area of the new kidney, and infections.
Going through dialysis was only a temporary band-aid that only gave us hope that our Mom would continue to stay with us for the days to come. For three years, she waited on the transplant list to receive a new kidney to prolong her life. She has 6 children and 21 grandchildren to spend the rest of her future with. As we all rang in the New Year of 2022, we received a phone call. It was an emotional moment for all of us as we received news that our Mom would be the recipient of a new kidney. Our Mom was rushed to Madison, WI, where she was admitted to UW Health University Hospital.
For the past couple of months, our Mom constantly had hospital stays. Going in and out of the hospital multiple times with pain, there were no answers to explain what had been going on. Doctors ran multiple tests and scans, however, were unable to find the root cause of the pain she was experiencing. Her body became very weak and brittle, not being able to stand or walk, have an appetite, or go on day-to-day with her normal routine and activities.
Among these obstacles, she was also a survivor of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. With her body already fighting strong and hard to keep her kidneys functioning, she also fought off the virus that impacted the entire world. She is a true fighter for life.
On July 8, 2022, our Mom had another visit at her local hospital in Eau Claire, WI. The doctors once again ran tests and scans to locate the root cause of the pain and internal bleeding she was having. After having done the tests and scans, the doctors contacted the transplant team who operated on our Mom. We were informed that the results were showing an infection around the area of her new kidney. With this, they had to transport our Mom to Madison, WI where the transplant team would take over.
We had kept our hopes and prayers, however, with heartbreaking news we were informed that her body is rejecting the new kidney. The doctors began a treatment with hopes it will reverse the rejection and help the new kidney function in her body.
Our Mom has been in the hospital for about a week and will continue to stay for the next couple of weeks going through this treatment plan. With this stay, it has brought a setback with finances at home. We are asking for family, friends, and anyone who is able to help with donating a small portion to keep our Moms’ home there for her when she returns.
