Colin & Zoe (Both severely disabled) travelled to America for a one month holiday in October 2019; and are still there now!
Within these four weeks, both of them caught pneumonia;
Zoe suffers from Ehler-Danlos syndrome, Asthma and has had both knees replaced, While Colin suffers from a rare genetic condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bones.
While enduring pneumonia, Colin broke many bones due to coughing, including seven ribs, pelvis, and spine, while Zoe was bed-bound and almost unable to breathe for several months. That was just the start of their ordeal...
After recovering from pneumonia, Zoe's condition took a turn for the worse. Her breathing was not improving; if anything, it deteriorated, with doctors struggling to find a treatment to improve her condition.
Colin's condition was not improving either, his phosphate levels were dropping fast, and he started to break bones spontaneously, even during his sleep.
The Medical team at the airline, along with Colin & Zoe's own doctor, said that they were 'not fit' to fly and that the airline considered them, with their health conditions, too much of an insurance risk to fly home.
By this point, Colin and Zoe's travel insurance had expired, and the medical bills, along with accommodation costs, quickly wiped out their savings. Their Visa had run out and the couple were seeing the ill health and stress taking a toll on their mental health.
Colin started having seizures; Zoe awoke one morning to colin having such a violent seizure that he had broken both of his femur heads and was quickly rushed to intensive care, where he remained for 12 weeks, isolated as Zoe due to her ill health was unable to travel to visit him.
Once released from the hospital, Colin, a few weeks later, had another seizure and was again rushed to hospital with two further breaks, where he currently remains while they try to ascertain which anti-seizure medication will reduce the risk of it happening again.
Over 2 years and £400,000 of medical bills, their family are worried they may never see them again.
The only way Colin and Zoe will be able to travel home to the UK so their family can support them and to reduce their medical bills is with a private, sea level flight with medical professionals on-board.
This service costs Upwards of £80,000 GBP.
This amount of financial support may be unattainable, But the rest of their family and I hope, with all of your help and goodwill, we may finally get our mum and dad back. Anything you could offer would help.
