Help Our Pup Sadie Get the Medical Care She Needs

Hi everyone,
Last week we took our dog Sadie to the emergency animal hospital with some bleeding in her gums and lethargy. She was immediately taken into the ICU.
She was diagnosed with Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) — essentially her body has started attacking her red blood cells causing her to bleed internally. The vets aren’t sure what caused the ITP but are doing all they can to stabilize her. She received 3 blood transfusions in two days. She was steadily improving enough to be sent home last Friday.
Today she spiked a fever and is back in the ICU for more treatment for an infection, X-rays and tests to see what the underlying issue causing the ITP could be.
Despite having lost feeling in her back legs and paws (likely due to a bleed near her spine) and feeling pretty crummy, Sadie is still giving lots of kisses and fighting the best she can.
Sadie is 4 years old, we’ve had her since she was a puppy. She was the biggest and best Christmas surprise I’ve ever been given. She’s never been sick before. She has a lot of life left and many more squirrels to chase up trees. For those of you who know us… she’s our world. We just want to give everything she needs so we can bring her home.
Her stay in the ICU last week, medications and tests have cost us $8,500 and we’re expecting the cost to be a good deal more in the coming days and weeks. Both Bobby and I work full time in ministry and fundraise most of our salary for the work we do. It’s hard to plan and prepare for things like this.
When we say anything you are able to give makes a tremendous difference for us and Sadie…it truly does.
We’re grateful to you for taking the time to read and pray for our pup. We’ll post updates here. We hope she can come home soon.
Warmly,
Katie & Bobby
