Meghan Atherton is an American Actress, Writer, and Director and an undergraduate student at California State University, Chico. She is studying Media Arts with an emphasis in production and hopes to continue Acting and Directing professionally after graduating. Since 2020, She has produced 5 original short films with 5 official selections across multiple film festivals. "Consequences" was written 3 years ago after the death of a local high school senior in the town our director grew up in. She hopes this story inspires people to educate the people they love on the dangers of fentanyl and how easily one pill can change everything.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
While I am a student myself, Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for adults aged 18-45 (dea.gov/onepill), and a lot of that age group is made up of students. I hope to educate other students, and parents, on how easy it is to get your hands on laced pills and how quickly a tiny bit of fentanyl works. I also hope that this film shows the authentic, unaltered story of what it feels like to lose someone you love in such a sudden, confusing way. Nora's character is a combination of my complicated grief and guilt when I lost an old friend of mine to fentanyl so I hope that this film also makes people struggling with these feelings feel seen and heard. Visit www.dea.gov/onepill for more information.
All money raised will be used toward Film Festival submission fees as well as travel fees for our team to attend our world premiere at a film festival! We are trying to submit to as many festivals as possible to increase this important story's reach as much as possible but as students with $25-$100 fees per festival, it is hard to do so. Your donation could help our story and message be heard by someone who is struggling, we are so grateful for any help. Thank you!
