Help our team fly!

Tax deductible
Please support our fantastic student team of engineers!

What: We are raising funds to help our engineering students travel to an international competition in Oshkosh Wisconsin this summer. Our team, “Some Assembly Required” has been participating in UAS4STEM (an aeronautics STEM program) since 2015. Last year they came in third place at this competition, and they have been working hard to reclaim their 2021 first-place win.

This year’s team is a talented and diverse group of 10 students from 7 local high schools. We are excited to send them to the international competition at AirVenture to practice engineering, teamwork, and presentation skills and meet other future engineers.

Our team is part of Explorer Post 1010 and is sponsored by the wonderful Rockville Science Center (RSC), whose mission is “to inspire a passion for lifelong exploration of science for our diverse community.” The team has been meeting at the RSC storefront every week since September to design and build their drone to perform search and rescue tasks. These tasks can be useful and life-saving in the real world, like identifying drop-off locations and delivering medical and other essential supplies. They also practice flying on weekends - join them to watch! (Get details by using the Fundraising Team "Contact" button below.)

Why: This fundraiser will help families with travel costs and will support a scholarship fund to ensure that costs are not a barrier to participation. Our current GoFundMe goal ($6,250) is 50% of the estimated travel costs.

When: We are raising funds from now through June 30th. One of our donors is providing a dollar-for-dollar match through June 21st (as of June 14th, up to $1,500).

How: Donate here to help support our team. Donations are typically 100% tax deductible in the US and no amount is too small (or too large). Also, your company may match your donation.
