Help Our Trans Family Flee Florida

Hello kind soul, my name is Alyx and my husband is Orion. To give you a glimpse into our situation, we are both queer and trans, I’m disabled, and to make matters worse, we’re located in Florida where it is increasingly unsafe for us.

Every day, we check the news with bated breath, and every day Florida is becoming more hostile towards the LGBTQIA+ community, especially trans folk. Laws are expanding to prevent us both from receiving life-saving gender-affirming health care or using public restrooms aligning with our gender without risk of prison time, among others.

We have family here in Florida, and despite building lives for ourselves here, we need to leave. Urgently. Our safety is at risk.

Yet, with my disability preventing me from working, we only have his income to rely on and it means we were already living as budgeted as possible. So despite the risk to our health, we transitioned to a mostly instant ramen diet in the hopes of saving some money to get out of the state, but frankly, we’d save enough too late. We wish we could just leave everything behind and go, but with my disabilities, we cannot for my safety and health, as we have medical equipment and furniture for my disability that would be far more expensive to replace.

Our current goal encompasses our moving costs and 3 months of living expenses. Anything over our goal will further go towards housing costs and then to help my husband have the gender-affirming surgery that he has waited over 10 years for since my health has prevented us from saving for it time and time again.

My husband is actively looking for new employment in the state we intend to relocate to, but we still need help. We hate asking, but our friends have given us the courage to ask, if you can spare anything, you would not only change but save our lives.
