A parent and a special education teacher dreamed of a safe and loving home for adults with special needs. The dream became The Village of the Blue Rose located five miles north of Clarksville, Missouri. The Village opened in 2000 with the first house; a home for women. In 2005 we opened a house for men. We're small by intention so that our residents experience a continued true home life, a supervised work environment and have long lasting community involvement. The Village has a restaurant, bed and breakfast rooms, an antique shop and a flea market. Our residents work in restaurant and maintain the bed and breakfast rooms.
We accept no state or federal funding in order to keep our village true to the dream of a family environment for our residents. Though we have a loving staff, dedicated volunteers and ongoing fundraising efforts, we fall short of our financial needs. In recent years we have had to close the restaurant numerous times due to flooding on the Mississippi River. Bridge construction on Highway 79 has limited access to the Village. Several of our fundraisers have fallen short of our hopes. Donations will help us meet resident needs, maintain our homes, and keep employment opportunities for residents. We need repairs in both resident homes such new doors. A walk-in freezer would replace inefficient chest freezers. The restaurant is in need of new chairs. Our telephone system is outdated and does not provide regular internet access for our office and restaurant making it difficult to process credit card payments. We recently had to replace an air conditioning unit and our tractor. Please help our Village of the Blue Rose keep the dream alive. Thank you for considering us in your contribution.
