Help our vital work for EU citizens in Scotland
Over the last few years, we have assisted thousands of EU citizens in Scotland to secure the ‘settled status’ which allows them to continue to live in the UK
The deadline for applications has now closed, but we know there are still many EU citizens who haven’t yet been given ‘settled status’. And in some cases, they will need to prove to the Home Office that they have ‘reasonable grounds’ to remain in the UK – even if they have lived in the UK for many decades.
And we believe there are many EU citizens, who do have ‘settled status’, can still find it difficult to prove to employers, landlords, or financial institutions that they do in fact have the right to be in this country.
So our important work goes on, and we need your support to help us do that.
We have received grants to fund our work supporting EU citizens who apply for ‘settled status’, but they don’t cover all the costs of what we do. So please do donate to this new crowdfunder to let us do that: it’s a practical way you can show your support for the 250,000 EU citizens in Scotland.
We need your donation:
- To help us give a voice to EU citizens in Scotland. Getting ‘settled status’ is important: but we also want to make sure that governments, both central and local, know from EU citizens their experience of the system, and what changes ought to be made to make their rights secure. We want to set up a network of EU citizens in Scotland to get that voice heard. We don’t have funding to do this yet – your donation would help to get this started.
- To ensure EU citizens get the rights they are entitled to, in areas like housing, employment, and access to public services. We have set up a ‘Rights service’, to provide advice to EU citizens. Currently we have advisers who can provide support in Polish and Spanish. We hope to expand this to serve the Romanian and Italian communities. We have some funding for this, but it doesn’t cover all the costs.
- To cover the cost of some of our overheads, particularly our office rent and electricity. Only a small part of that is paid for by the grants we received, and it is vital we raise the cash to pay for this.
