Help out an Afghan Patriot who stood by the U.S.
Dear Friends,
For the last 17 days, Brennan Heuser of Colorado Springs, Colorado and I have been diligently working to extract one of our Afghan partners, Afzal Afzali, from Kabul. He was the Program Manager at the Afghanistan Academic and Islamic Research Center, an organization that was supported by the U.S. Embassy and U.S. Special Operations Command. We worked closely with him during our separate deployments. These 17 days have been filled with ups and downs and many a rollercoaster, late nights and early mornings (I even missed a wedding last weekend) as we pulled out every stop to make this happen. We knew last Thursday was critical and would likely provide the last opportunity to secure a safe passage. There is immense detail to this story but the BLUF are the two words sent to me on Signal at 2209EST on Thursday night from a friend on the ground by the North Gate entrance to the Hamid Karzai International Airport, “He’s in!” Afzal, his wife and two small children, and four other unaccompanied children with the Afzali’s (to be reunited with their mother in the U.S. after their father died) were flown out of Kabul on Sunday morning on this magnificent C-17. Brennan and I will never forget this for the rest of our lives. They are now in the United States.
We would like to immediately start this page to help Afzal and his family with his needs. Afzal and his wife have two children, one boy (5 years old) and one girl (6 years old). The good news is his brother, Faiz, lives in Dallas.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to assist this great Afghan patriot who loyally supported the United States in Afghanistan.
Sincerely,
Brennan Heuser and Scott Sadler
