Help Owen Beat Cancer

My name is Colleen Belisle and I am reaching out for my great nephew Owen who is 3 years old. 

Owen was an active, healthy 3 year old up until mid-June when he got very sick and was taken to the hospital. 

Owen was diagnosed with a tumour on his brain stem (the area that controls the heart and lung function) and underwent an urgent 12 hour surgery to remove the tumour. The drs said they got the tumour and this was a short happy moment for the family.  Owen’s tumour has been tested and as a result the family has found that this is a grade 3  ependymoma. He will be needing radiation and  then chemotherapy to kill of any remaining cells that are hiding in his brain and spinal cord. With this tumour if only 1 cell was missed the tumour could grow again very quickly. As he is only 3, the radiation treatment it will have a long-term effect on his growth and development, at the very least affecting his ability to learn and his memory. Owen is currently a very bright, happy boy who loves to learn.

The radiation treatment will be starting very soon, once all of the necessary arrangements and baseline testing of his major body systems is completed. 

This little boy is already afraid when any dr or nurse comes near him and we are afraid this may be a very long road for him and the family with a lot of expenses that we are not aware of yet. One or both of his parents will be unable to work during the course of his treatment. 

We are unaware of how this is going to end, all we can do is pray and leave it to our very talented team of medical professionals. As we do know that this treatment is going to have a detrimental effect on his memory and learning, all we can currently do is hope that he can survive this treatment, a little boy who is just starting his life.

Your donation will go straight to the family as well as managed by the family to help with unknown hospital expenses and any medical expenses such as medications or any medical device that may be needed in the future, as well as to ensure the family can spend the maximum amount of time possible together given the future is uncertain.
