Help Owen Murray in his fight against Cancer
Owen’s story:
Owen was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal Cancer in March 2020, just 3 days before the first national lockdown.
To describe the following 18 months as a rollercoaster would be a huge understatement.
So far Owen has endured 3 rounds of chemotherapy (including a clinical trial), 2 courses of radiotherapy, several operations, prolonged hospital stays due to infections and other complications, not to mention countless scans, tests and hospital consultations - alone due to strict COVID precautions.
Despite all of this, his disease continues to progress & unfortunately Owen’s health has been showing signs of deterioration.
In December 2020 he received the devastating news that as far as conventional treatments go, the NHS were out of options and they consider his diagnosis terminal.
2 weeks after the initial diagnosis, Owen & his then partner Laura, discovered that they were expecting their first child.
Later that year in December, just 4 days before the Oncologist shared the heart breaking news that the NHS had no further treatment options for Owen, Laura gave birth to a healthy, happy baby girl - Luna Hope Murray.
Owen proposed a couple of hours after Luna was born & they were lucky enough to celebrate their marriage to one another with 30 close friends & family in May 2021.
Owen desperately needs our continued help and support to fight this disease.
Although options are limited in the UK with conventional NHS treatment, there is hope that a clinic abroad specialising in a combination of conventional and experimental treatments could offer a successful outcome to his condition.
At the very least, we believe these could help to prolong his life and allow them to spend as much time as possible seeing baby Luna grow up together.
As I am sure you are aware, these treatments do not come cheap, hence our need to continue our fundraising efforts past those that have already taken place earlier this year.
A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated and supported us, with a special thank you to the friends and family who organised the original fundraising page, we honestly cannot find the words to express our gratitude.
The love, support and kindness shown by you all over the last 18 months has been truly humbling.
You have made a huge difference to Owen’s quality of life already, allowing us to work closely with some leading private specialists here in the UK, but now the time has come to take the next step.
Owen, Laura & Luna are hoping to travel to Germany in the coming weeks to start his treatment there.
If successful, this is expected to last for at least the next 12 months meaning there is still a very long and challenging road ahead for Owen & his family.
There are plans for several more fundraising activities over the coming months, so watch this space.
We will continue to keep you all updated as and when these happen.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
Together we will help Owen to win the fight of his life.
