Help Oxford Legacy Students Travel to Uvalde, TX

Hi, my name is Nicole Barnett. I am the IB Diploma Program Coordinator at Oxford High School in Oxford, MI. Our IB Diploma Senior students have made it their mission to help the Robb Elementary students in Uvalde, TX. On May 25, 2022, these students started their foundation, The Oxford Legacy.
Following the traumatic mass shooting at our school on November 30, 2021, we received love from all over the country. Our school, Oxford High School, made tragic history with yet another mass school shooting. Our lives forever changed. We lost four student Wildcats, six students injured, and one teacher injured that day. Tragedy struck again as we all watched Uvalde’s horrific day unfold before our eyes at Robb elementary. We knew the sights, sounds, fear, grief and trauma those children felt. We also know this will be an ongoing trauma process. We want to give back the love that we have been given.
Our group, Oxford Legacy, formed the next day, May 25, 2022. We felt we had a responsibility and purpose of doing something to give back! We thought back to all the thoughts, items, cards and meals people gave us. We started reaching out to corporations to request donations. We formed an internal school account to collect financial donations, hoping to make a difference for the victimized community members on that tragic day. Over the past five months, we have had success and raised money strictly to spread joy and love to the Robb Elementary victims.
We plan to deliver the items we have purchased IN PERSON! Some of those items include over 1200 handmade blankets, water bottles, fidgets, bags, bracelets and more. We recently partnered with OHS Class of 2022 graduate Zoe Touray, to assist in her event, “Survivors United Playday,” where we will be volunteering in person and using this event to distribute our items and connect with the community. All monetary donations we have received in the past are strictly for the victims of Uvalde.
This GoFundMe is now in place for us to fundraise enough money to cover our travel expenses, including hotel stays, ground transportation, and food. There will be 24 total participants (students & chaperones). Any funds raised will go towards covering this total balance of travel. If we exceed the goal, additional funds will be put towards the Uvalde Foundation and Therapy Dog purchase.
Pain recognizes pain, and we want to help along the same path of healing we have traveled.
