Help Pacifica Radio's Reporter Flee Gaza

UPDATE
Help Pacifica Radio's Gaza correspondent flee Gaza.

After surviving more than 6 months of war and reporting from the front lines, Pacifica's Gaza correspondent, Rami Almeghari is looking to flee Gaza with his family, but it will be a costly journey that he cannot otherwise afford, so we're asking for your support.

Gaza is considered the most dangerous war zone for journalists ever, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. It's documented 97 journalists killed since October 7th, and says many were targeted. 4 remain missing and many more have been injured. CPJ has also documented the targeted killings of journalists families in Gaza. For these reasons we hope you will contribute to help save the life of our Gaza correspondent and his family.

A message from Rami is included in a new video.

Pacifica Radio has tried to find Rami and his family safe passage out of Gaza thru the U.S. State Department and embassy to no avail. This is our last hope.

Thank you for your generosity.
Rami Almeghari and Christina Aanestad (KPFA News Co-Director/Rami's editor).

Below is more information about Rami and info about our earlier, successful fundraising effort for Rami.

For 18 years Rami has reported about the plight of his people in Gaza for Pacifica Radio, the only U.S. based national radio network with a correspondent in Gaza. Today, he's reporting there from a war zone. Israel's military forced the evacuation of the entire refugee camp, where Rami lived, dropping leaflets warning of an imminent ground invasion. A single parent, Rami was forced to flee with his entire family including his children as young as 3 years old to the southern city of Rafah and while there, his home was struck by tank shells and riddled with bullets. He also fell and fractured his arm, rendering him unable to work.

While Rami's home in the middle Gaza Strip is still standing, unlike others, it badly needs repair. Part of his roof collapsed, there are large rocket sized holes in his walls, all the windows were smashed or broken, and rooftop walls were reduced to rubble.

Despite his own struggles, Rami still files reports for Pacifica Radio about the war in Gaza, it's impacts and the humanitarian crisis of his Palestinian people, unfolding there.

I'm Christina Aanestad, Rami's editor At KPFA, Pacifica Radio in Berkeley, California. I'm putting this fundraiser together because it's the least thing I can do to show support for my colleague. Your support will help cover the costs of repairs to Rami's home, as he heals from his injury.

Thank you.

In solidarity,

Christina Aanestad on behalf of Rami Almeghari
