Please Help Dave & Linda Jacoby Start Anew
On the Sunday afternoon of May 2nd, 2021, the unthinkable happened. Dave Jacoby’s shop nestled in the woods of mid coast Maine suffered a fire leaving nothing behind. Dave is a husband to Linda, a father to Steve and Megan, and grandfather of two beautiful grandchildren, Bo and Sienna. Both Dave and his wife Linda have suffered great loss over the past few years creating not only a financial struggle but an emotional one. Dave is a kind, loving, and selfless person, and an individual who takes great pride in his work and helping others whenever he can. The quintessential Mainer is a person of great character who can fix just about anything you place in front of him, and this is exactly what you will find in Dave. One might describe our father as the strong silent type, who might not speak many words, but his work and selflessness spoke volumes about who he is. Many of you reading this might have a shop at home and know that a shop is more than just a place where you go to tinker and repair things, but it is a place where you find peace, quiet and solitude. It is a place where friends stop by, it is a place where you share stories, laughter and make memories through years of projects. This shop for Dave created a great sense of purpose not just income. Powder coating is a niche market where he was well known for his ability to showcase his craftsmanship. Customers from all around Knox County would bring Dave, motorcycle frames, car rims, mountain bikes, automotive parts, high end boat components, etc. To complete these projects, you need tools, and our fathers tool collection spanned fifty years, all of which were lost to the fire. Any of you who might have a tool collection certainly understand how much they mean to you. Tools are an extension of ourselves and allow us to repair, shape, mold, and create. The insurance on Dave’s shop is not covered due to the nature of the business. The shop had a value of over $100,000 dollars. Personal property including all of Dave’s tools, customer projects, his pickup truck and camper, and a boat that was purchased to spend more time with his grandson Bo, are all an out of pocket expense totaling well over $45,000 dollars. Both Dave and Linda worked for the local school system in Warren, Maine and were approaching retirement. This devastating loss of property and business has come at a very hard time. Our hope is to take the recovery cost out of the insurance's hands, to better help Dave recuperate some of his personal losses. We understand that this past year and a half, many people have struggled because of the pandemic, and that finances might be tight. Any little bit that you might be able to help would be greatly appreciated and will not go unnoticed. Sometimes when life presents us with these trying times and situations, we try to look and find the silver lining in the cloud. Right now it is hard to understand how this could have happened to a man as hard working and as kind as our father. As their children it is our time to reach out to all of you, to help them as much as they have helped us in our lives. Thank all of you so much for taking the time to read this, and possibly passing it along to others that might also be able to help Dave and Linda.
