Help to get Patch back on his feet

Meet Patch, a three-year-old blue greyhound who has had a difficult start in life.

He came to Kent Greyhound Rescue (KGR) late last year and was immediately adopted. Unfortunately, the new owners didn't feel able to provide a long-term home for him and returned him to the rescue in January.

As almost all KGR's dogs are looked after in foster homes, Patch came to live with us (Hannah & Charlie) in London. When he arrived, he was very anxious.  He struggled with walking and often froze frequently. He was somewhat shut down. With lots of love, patience, walking around the block many times to build his confidence (!) and treats, Patch came out of his shell and became an extremely affectionate, content and much-loved dog. He became adept at public transport, travelling on buses, trains and the DLR routinely and even travelled to North Yorkshire by car. Everyone who meets him finds him friendly and gentle and our family and friends fell completely in love with him. His ultimate happiness seemed to be being surrounded by lots of people giving him attention. There are some photos of our time together below.

After several months in foster, Patch was recently adopted again. Shortly after arriving in his new home, Patch had an accident, and his foot was broken in several places. His new owners couldn't cover the costs or cope with the rehabilitation, so he has once again been returned to KGR. Patch is a young dog, and KGR believes every effort should be made to help get Patch back on his feet and find a long-term loving home.

KGR will be covering the cost of his operation and veterinary bills, expected to be in the region of £7000.

We would be incredibly grateful if you could offer any support towards Patch's veterinary bills. The charity could not exist without your precious help.

Patch is again in foster care and will need to limit his movement considerably for some time. His full recovery is likely to take about six months, after which he will once again be looking for his forever home.

Kent Greyhound Rescue is a registered charity (1138841) based near Hythe, in South East Kent. Everyone at KGR is a volunteer and no one is paid. Our rescues find new homes for around 150 abandoned and unwanted greyhounds, lurchers and other sighthounds each year.

More information about Kent Greyhound Rescue: Kent Greyhound Rescue rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted and abandoned greyhounds and lurchers. We are all volunteers, so all the money raised goes towards helping the dogs in our care. Most of our dogs come from Ireland; although they may have raced in the UK, some come from Spain and Romania. Our lurchers mainly come to us from the dog pounds. Most of the dogs have been uncared for and need medical attention.
