Help Patrick Defeat Cancer

Hello, my name is Daniel Villarreal and I'm asking you to help my longtime friend Patrick Hoffman defeat his aggressive but treatable stage 4 lymphatic cancer.

Patrick received his diagnosis in mid-June, after a three-week hospital stay for complications following a bowel obstruction surgery. The obstruction was a tumor about the size of a grapefruit, and when doctors biopsied it, they discovered it was cancerous.

He spent about a month in the hospital, during which time he underwent two surgeries, including one that removed 40% of his colon. He will soon start chemotherapy, but he has been out of work while recovering from this difficult emotional and physical ordeal.

SUPPORTING A TERRIFIC, CARING GUY

Patrick is a strong caring individual who has rarely asked for help and has often helped others. His main caregivers all died when he was very young, he has worked hard to pay his own way since age 16, and at current, his remaining biological family is stretched thin at this time of need — that's why I'm turning to you.

Patrick is a terrific guy: During college, he was a dedicated resident advisor, a member of his school's internationally touring choir, and a part of the national service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. Since college, he has volunteered his time as a political delegate and poll worker and has also worked numerous community fundraisers at the Round-Up Saloon. He has photographed celebrities like P!nk and Olympia Dukakis, shot local events, and has had his images published in The Advocate and other publications.

WHAT WILL THE MONEY GO TOWARDS?

Though we have set the goal at $30,000, it's just a large estimate to help cover a wide range of costs. Any donations will go directly toward covering his health insurance premiums, co-pays, and deductibles; medications and medical bills; his rent, utility, and auto payments; as well as basic food and gas as he re-establishes his work and proceeds through chemo.

We will be posting updates about this fundraiser and his treatment on this page, including messages and images from Patrick himself. We will also conduct an ongoing social media campaign, including messages from some of Patrick's closest friends, to encourage others to give.
