Help Patti Rebuild After Devastating Fire

Support Patti Simpson's Recovery After Devastating Fire!

Patti Simpson, a member of the Montclair Mews community, recently suffered a devastating loss when a 2-Alarm fire destroyed her condo. The condo association’s insurance policy requires a $10,000 deductible that Patti, who is retired and on a fixed income, is responsible for paying. Additionally, Patti’s personal homeowner’s insurance, which covers the contents of her home will not replace all that was lost. We are seeking your support to help Patti cover these costs and rebuild her life. Any amount, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated.

On the evening of June 14, a devastating 2-Alarm fire tore through Patti's beloved condo in Montclair Mews. The fire, caused by an electrical fault in the air conditioning unit, quickly spread from the deck to the attic, engulfing the back of the home in flames. Station 503, where Patti’s daughter once served as a volunteer, was first on scene and quickly requested additional units to be dispatched.

After losing her high school sweetheart and husband in 2017, Patti moved from their long-time family home to be near her daughter Jennifer and her two grandchildren. She found solace in a cozy condo, a five-minute drive from her family, where she and Snow built a new life together. Patti had just returned from an outing when she saw the fire trucks outside her neighborhood and realized they were at her home. Although Patti wasn't home at the time of the fire, her faithful dog, Snow, was inside. Fortunately, Snow managed to escape unharmed when the firefighters breached the door, suffering only minor smoke irritation and currently being treated by his veterinarian.

The true extent of fire, smoke, and water damage to Patti’s belongings is not known at this time. However, the memories, photos of her past, and family heirlooms are destroyed.

Navigating the insurance claims process has added to Patti’s challenges. Because it is a condo, the condo association has its own insurance policy, which covers the exterior structure of the home. Unfortunately, this policy includes a $10,000 deductible that Patti is required to pay. Patti’s personal homeowner’s insurance is responsible for the contents inside the home and currently at a limit of about $10,000. The family is asking the company to increase this allowance due to the extensive losses.

The response from the Montclair Mews, Montclair, and surrounding communities has been heartwarming. Neighbors and friends quickly organized to provide immediate assistance. Within hours, Patti received donations of shoes, clothes, gift cards, toiletries, and essentials for Snow, including a new leash, food, bed, and toys. Jennifer has temporarily moved her mother into her home, ensuring she has a safe place to stay while they navigate the aftermath of the fire.

"Patti is known for her generosity and willingness to help others," Jennifer shared. "She has always been there for her friends and family, giving unconditionally. Now it's our turn to help her rebuild her life."
