Help Patty Fight Metastatic Breast Cancer
Donation protected
Hello everyone! We'd like to take a moment to tell you all a little bit about our amazing, kind and beautiful mom, Patty, who is currently battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
Patty was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2019. Her treatments started in August of 2019, which included chemotherapy and radiation along with the double mastectomy in July of 2020 (at the height of the pandemic). Treatments were very difficult, especially since we were unable to be there with her due to Covid protocols. We were hopeful that although treatments were at times brutal, that she would be able to one day ring the bell when she was done her treatments. Unfortunately, that day has never come and will likely not in the future. Even with all of her treatments and surgery, Patty was told that her cancer had metastasized and that she would need to continue treatments, but her prognosis was very poor. Her cancer has spread to her lungs and bones, which has caused tremendous compression and pain in her neck. Her doctor has discussed palliative care options with her as well, which would add to out of pocket costs. Her insurance is covering most of her treatments, however, her treatment options are limited due to what they will cover. She has yet to have any kind of reconstruction, which has taken a toll on her self-esteem. Additionally, she has extensive damage from chemotherapy alone, including heart failure and liver damage.
Throughout this process, our mom has continued to keep a smile on her face and stay positive even when we simply cannot. She has continued to work as a nanny throughout her diagnosis and treatments even though sometimes it's nearly physically impossible for her. She suffers in pain every single day, with some days worse then others and frankly, we aren't sure how she does it. She loves taking care of kids and even when she feels terrible, they can bring her joy. She works as much as she can, but even her doctors have advised against it due to her deteriorating condition. Since she simply cannot work any more than her current hours, the financial repercussions have continued to pile up. We are struggling to make it through each month, even with full-time jobs to support her.
That's why myself and my sister are here. We have put off setting up a fundraiser for a long time now as we couldn't bring ourselves to ask for help, but at the end of the day, she deserves it and we want to give her a better quality of life.
The biggest financial burden that hit us most recently was an unexpected move. Our landlords had decided to sell our home we had been living in the last 4 years and we had a very short time frame to find a new place. This was an enormous, unexpected financial hit we suffered as the cost of rent has skyrocketed and moving costs alone were more than we could afford. We have applied for numerous breast cancer grants to help lessen the financial burden, however, most places are either out of funds or their screening process can take months to get through.
We humbly ask for your help in giving our mom, Patty a more comfortable and peaceful life. Cancer is stressful enough alone, we no longer want her to worry about financial stress, too.
