Help Paul Kang Recover from Palisades Fire

On January 7, my Grandpa, Paul Kang, lost the house he has lived in for over 40 years in the Palisades fire. We are so thankful he is safe, but our beloved family home in the Palisades is a loss we are all feeling very deeply.

My Grandpa is the most resilient person I know. He survived the Korean War, came to the U.S. hardly able to speak English, put himself through college, and never stopped working to provide for his family.

He and my Grandma, Rufina, were extremely proud of their Palisades home. It was a symbol that they had achieved the American dream. The house, garden, and pool was their happy place, as it was all of ours.

Last May, my Grandpa suffered the loss of his wife. The house, and their cat, Juliette (who is missing), were his remaining ties to my Grandma.

While my Grandpa remains strong, it’s our turn to help him.

Please help us make this difficult time as easy as possible for him and our family. We would like to provide him with basic necessities so he can begin to rebuild his life as we figure out the next steps.

The pool, where every kid in the family learned to swim and spent all Summer playing in. My Grandma saved her own money to install this pool when I was a baby.

My Grandma’s garden was her pride and joy. She could always be found watering or smelling her flowers.
