Help Paula Maria Frade Attend Advocacy Training in Oaxaca,MX

Hello everyone! My name is Paula Maria Frade and I am a Grad Student at Texas Wesleyan University studying Curriculum and Instruction! I was recently accepted to be apart of a wonderful and once in a life time opportunity to attend a training in Oaxaca, MX to learn more about immigration and indigenous advocacy!

To explain more why I so deeply want to attend this training, here is my background:

I am from what many call the barrios of Fort Worth,TX. Growing up, my friends were rather first generation (like me) or immigrated from their home countries to the US at very young ages. It wasn't until I got older when I understood how separate and scary their lives were for them. I think a lot about the community I grew up with and I try to think about if none of it existed - but truthfully, it is hard to imagine such a thing when I only experienced the beauty of community and how it can shape a person.

Moreover, I am fortunate to have parents who made culture one of their priorities for their children. I have visited many beautiful states around Mexico by car and experienced beautifully slow vacations. Learning the different cultures of Mexico made me appreciate and love my roots even more.

Being able to travel to Oaxaca would be a dream for me and just seeing the community work they are doing there. Oaxaca is one of the more indigenous-concentrated states in Mexico and having this experience would be like no other.
