Help Pay Chewy’s Vet Bills

Donation protected
Hiii everyone! For those of you that know Chewy, you know that he’s practically my birth child.

I adopted him a year and a half ago from a rescue that got him from a (not good) breeder. He needed all his teeth removed because they were neglected for 11 years, had a broken jaw from god knows what they did to him, and advanced glaucoma, which led to a necessary eye removal :( Yet…he stayed fighting through everything.

Now we are battling a new health challenge: in January 2022 Chewy stopped eating. We took him to the vet and found out his kidneys were in stage 4 failure, filling his body with toxins, which led to other organs shutting down. The vet was almost positive he wouldn’t make it through that night and prepared me to say goodbye. So I took him home and stayed awake with him all night (crying…a lot). Keeping his body temperature up by rotating warm blankets, and keeping his sugar levels up with honey in a spoon. If his body temperature dropped below 37, that would be the beginning of the end…

But…HE MADE IT TO THE MORNING. That’s when this long, sad, expensive journey started.

He was in and out of the vet for 5 days straight, getting dialysis treatment 10 hours per day. Along with 5 different supplements, injectable antibiotics, and kidney-maintenance food. Every day I was getting news that he likely wouldn’t live much longer, but that he was chilling and not in pain. But, he’s my child and I knew it wasn’t time to let go.

The dialysis went better than anyone expected, and he got to come home. At home, I had to administer subcutaneous fluids via needle and IV bag (yes, literally giving my dog an IV drip at home…terrifying), along with 3 meals a day topped with supplements galore and antibiotics. And yet again….he kept fighting and making it through.

Now, 2 months later, he’s still alive and kicking and fighting, but not without residual issues. He has to see his vet every 2-4 weeks for blood tests, urine tests, body weight management, blood pressure checks, and infection surveillance because he’s still not stable, things could change quickly, and he needs to be monitored closely.

When this all started, the vet said he had 1 day left to live.

After some treatments, the vet said he had 6 months to live.

Now…the vet thinks he could live for much longer and have a happy life.

After everything, it was all worth it. And it will continue to be worth it, for this tiny little boy who had the roughest life, and is now fighting for a happy and healthy retirement.

With all that said (sorry for the rant), this has come with many, many vet bills that my bank account has felt very hard…which will continue with every checkup.

If you’re able to help in any way, Chewy and I are forever grateful, and it will help keep me in the green, and keep Chewy healthy and stable for years to come.

Love you all!!!!!
