Anyone who has known me for the past 7 years has known my dog Diesel has been the highlight of not only mine, but my family and loved ones lives. He's given my family so much happiness, unconditional love and loyalty, Diesel has always been my best friend, he's high
energy, playful, talkative, extremely active and of course the best protector you could ever ask for.
Our lives quickly changed For the worst the morning of January 20th. Before going to school we realized he wasn't breathing like normal so we immediately took him to the vet . His doctor had him stay overnight due to air trapped in his chest they needed to take out with a tube.
In the matter of minutes, after being put under he was in critical condition.Thankfully they stabilized him then diagnosed him with a Spontaneous Pneumothorax, which is air stuck between the lungs and chest, which may occur slowly. This would be the first time my family heard it's common in husky's. He was doing well until more air developed in his chest cavity and he now needed to be transferred to a place better equipped for his condition. He now needed surgery. He then was transferred to Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island. Since then he has been regulated with tubes in both sides of his chest getting air manually taken out of him every 4 hours. On Monday the 24th, we were finally able to see him for the first time since Thursday. He was very sad, confused and didn't understand why we couldn't be with him and why he couldn't be home with us. Feedback from the Dr was good. He was breathing better than before and on Monday morning he had negative air intake on his right lung and a few syringes on the left. His doctor said he would need negative air in both lungs for 24hr to be sent home.He was excited to finally see us after being confused for days.He was down and wasn't too fond of the situation. His doctor informed us that his tests was showing he was getting more air in his lungs once again..And now we have to make a final decision of euthanasia or surgery.
Diesel is family and always will be. We’ve decided to fight for his life and try surgery. I mean how couldn't we ? He was perfect before Thursday the 20th and we're just heartbroken how fast things could go wrong.
After so many ups and downs and this being his 5th day in the hospital the bills are piling up. My siblings and I decided to help my mom with some of the bills but even with the four of us it won't be enough. We are trying to do everything we can because he is our family, he is our life and we refuse to give up on our baby boy. Please help bring our baby home where he belongs!!
