Help Pecan Beat FIP

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Pecan and my mom, Carla Fernandez, adopted me in July of 2023. After she adopted me, I presented an infection from my previous spay surgery within days of living in my new home with my new mom, Carla and my brother, Oreo. I ultimately had to have a second surgery to take care of the infection. I was as happy as could be and recovered smoothly. A few months later, I started developing what the vets presumed as upper respiratory infections, and I kept getting them over and over again. Finally, I thought I was all better! Then all of a sudden my right eye started having some weird discoloration - almost brown, but my mom thought my eyes were just changing colors because of my age. My mom and the vet worked tirelessly to determine what was wrong with my eye, when they discovered I had glaucoma at the mere age of 7 months! I was put on many eye medications for several weeks, though the pressure in my eye was not relieved. I was opted to have enucleation surgery and my mom took very good care of me while I recovered. It was a success! My eye was then sent for biopsy and no sign of cancer was found! Yay! However, I became very lethargic, had an increase in thirst, and lost 0.5 lbs all in a matter of a week! I didn't even want to play with my brother, Oreo, or my favorite toys! My mom sent me to the vet where I had a 103 fever and anemia. The vet once again suggested another upper respiratory infection. I was sent on my way with medication, but after a few days, I did not get any better and lost even more weight! My mom made an appointment immediately and the scary vet drew my blood to see what was wrong with me. The following business day, my mom got a phone call and was told there was a 90% chance that I had FIP - a fatal disease without treatment. It was suggested to my mom to keep me comfortable until it was time to let me go. However, my mommy is hard-headed and said, 'no way!' She was able to find FIP Warriors 5.0 just out of pure luck and was able to get me medication the very next day. My mom also made a follow-up appointment with a new vet that specializes in cat care. I started injections on January 30th, 2024 and I quickly started fighting my mom the stronger that I got. I switched to pills after two weeks and now I am on day 26. I have gone from 5.03 lbs to 6.84 lbs! I am 'eating the whole house' as my mom would say and I have a tremendous amount of energy! I have never felt better! As treatment continues, the cost has increased due to my appetite and weight gain and my mom needs your help to help me keep fighting!! We have spent $2,284 just for treatment alone, not including vet visits and supportive care, so any support is greatly appreciated! We still have minimum 58 days left to go! All donations will go directly toward Pecan’s treatment and/or vet visits.

UPDATE: 2/28/2024
I now weigh 7 lbs and all of my bloodwork, with the exception of my RDW is all within normal range -Pecan.

UPDATE: 3/9/2024 - DAY 38
Pecan officially weighs 7.3 lbs, which requires a higher dose. Due to her been given Depo prior to confirming FIP, Pecan is on a higher dose of the GS treatment at 9kg a day. Her cost has gone up to $86/day which is $602/week. At this time, Pecan’s treatment is paid through 8 weeks of treatment, which means 4 weeks (minimum) is still needed for her treatment. Please consider donating!

UPDATE: 3/23/2024 - DAY 53
Pecan officially weighs 8.2 lbs!! She has gained a little over 3 lbs since starting GS treatment. Pecan continues to THRIVE and I am hopeful she will continue to do well. On 3/27/2024, Pecan will visit the vet for her 8-week bloodwork to determine how she is doing clinically. Pecan has treatment covered through 4/12/2024, though this may quickly change as she continues to gain weight. She is currently at 9kg (Pecan is at a higher dose due to been given Depo prior to knowing her diagnosis. For this reason, her dose is high) still but will more than likely need to increase her dose in a few days. Her treatment currently costs $86/day = $602/week. If all goes well, Pecan only needs 10 days of treatment covered + the cost of her 8-week bloodwork covered. We are almost there! Please donate if you can!

UPDATE: 3/27/2024 - DAY 57
Pecan visited the vet today for her 8 week bloodwork. Her numbers still look good!!! Pecan has slightly high BUN and ALT levels, though not concerning at this time. She weighed in at 8.67 lbs at the vet, therefore she is now on 10 kg of the GS treatment. Pecan will go back to the vet in 3 weeks to determine if she will be cleared for observation after she hits 84 days.

UPDATE: 4/21/2024 - DAY 83
Pecan visited the vet 3 days ago and her bloodwork is perfect!!! Sweet girl will end treatment on 4/22/2024 and enter observation on 4/23/2024! Pecan is a healthy 9.52 lbs, she loves her Churu treats and loves wrestling with her big brother, Oreo. She also turned 1 this month!
