Help Peggy Hehman Fight AML Leukemia

If you live in Brownstown IN, you might know Peggy Hehman. Most people know her as “Nana.” She has owned a daycare for the last 29 years and has poured unconditional love into her “cherubs," instilling kindness and virtues as well as cooking daily meals that would bring a farmer back! :)
Her family means the world to her and she may be arguably one of the most devoted Brownstown Braves fans to date! When her grandchildren are playing, it brings her joy to be sitting in the stands cheering them on. She supports the entire team and there have been mornings where she has provided breakfast on game day, made treats, posters, and videos to support the players. This community is very tight and Nana truly enjoys their sports.
Nana is a pillar in her community. She has served and given quietly behind the scenes in so many ways. Now, she is the one who needs love and care.
During the summer of 2023, Peggy went in for her routine physical. After a series of tests, her doctors diagnosed her with AML Leukemia, (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) and a chromosome issue involved with myeloid blasts. This is a rare form that affects only 1% of patients. Her doctor prescribed a very unusual intense chemo treatment in order to prepare her body for transplant. It has proven to be very difficult on her body after several rounds in the last six months. This has resulted in several weeks of hospitalization.
The next step is a bone marrow biopsy to ensure that the chromosomes are destroyed. If successful, Peggy will proceed with a bone marrow transplant. The doctors have told her this next year will be a battle. However, we know deep in our hearts Nana WILL WIN! There is an 80% chance of remission with a successful transplant. Nana refuses to think about or dwell on the what-ifs and the unknowns. She believes that God is able, and that the Chromosome 3 and the myeloid blasts will be destroyed.
If you will focus on one thing, please pray specifically for her body to be ready for transplant. Prayers are powerful! “For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” Matthew 18:20
Many people have asked how they can help. We have started a Go Fund Me Account to ease the financial burden Nana and Poppy are facing. The funds raised will go directly towards her medical, travel, and living expenses after being forced into early retirement due to her diagnosis. As you can imagine, the medical costs alone are astronomical.
Let's all join together to give love back to a lady who has shown love to so many in her life. Please consider donating to Peggy's Go Fund Me Page to help her fight this battle. It is my hope that with your help, we can all give the love and care she has shown us and so many others in her life. Please feel free to share.
If you want to learn more about Nana's story, go to https://www.caringbridge.org and type in Peggy Hehman. She writes a daily blog which is so uplifting and inspiring. You will also find updates as to what is current in her medical journey.
Thank you for your support!
In her own words, "With God and all of you....I will fight the fight and I will finish the race. Thank you all for your love....support and continued prayers.....they mean the world to me!”
Yesterday The Devil whispered in my ear, ”YOU’RE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE STORM...” ...Today I whispered in The Devils ear, “I AM THE STORM.”
