Help the people of Melamchi rebuild after mudslide
Donation protected
Hello everyone!
It sounds crazy, but I will be running 150 kms in January to help raise money for the people of Melamchi in Nepal. This will mean running in the hot afternoon sun after work each day, in mid to high-30 degree heat, and humidity constantly up around 80%.
Catastrophic events recently occurred in the city of Helambu, Sindhupalchok district in Nepal. Mud-slides devastated an entire town (Melamchi) killing 150 people, injuring them and destroying all the homes in the village. The families living in this village have lost everything; their houses and all of their contents. I therefore ask each of you for help so that we can help all the families affected by these events with any money raised to be used to distribute food and clothing throughout the town.
This town means a lot to me. I met my friend Kamal, from Melamchi, whilst hitch-hiking through France. Kamal was the night manager at a hotel in Lyon where my friend and I were staying. He explained that he was a hotel manager during France's winter and a trek guide in his home country of Nepal during the spring/summer. A few years later I met up with Kamal on my way to Australia, and hiked through the Manaslu region of Nepal with him for 3 weeks. His family let me stay for them for a couple of weeks after the trek. Kamal and his family are extremely hospitable and are now trying to help the wider community that they live in recover from so many lives lost, and I want to help them out in any way that I can too, even if it means running stupid kilometres in the Darwin heat!
You can track my progress towards the 150kms at the link below, where I will be posting updates from my Strava account and total km's ran:
Donations of any size would be much appreciated to help the people Melamchi recover from this devastating catastrophic event. Thank you!
Kind Regards,
