My name is Esteban, and I have identified three problems in my community:

1 Young people are addicted to their phones because they lack hobbies and entertainment alternatives.

2 People who recently retire feel lonely or without a life purpose, especially if they don´t have family left.

3 Entrepreneurs from my city don´t have a place to prototype or innovate with physical products.

How do I solve this?

I decided to create a community workshop in Valencia’s city center.

1 Give young and old intensive courses so they can quickly pick up the basics to start any hobby and overcome or prevent addictions.

2 Create a space to socialize, with affordable tools and machinery access, for people living in flats.

3 Offer free design mentorship to young entrepreneurs, so they can develop companies to support the industrialization of an economy heavily based on services.

4 Allow anyone, especially retirees with excellent craft knowledge, to teach others, so they don’t doubt their utility in society.

5 Sell local quality products made by members or entrepreneurs from the space.

What do I need from you?

Enough to make the space safe for everyone, which integrates into the city without creating issues with neighbors.

I will donate all my machinery and tools, cash for the space’s operating expenses for a year, plus my time and knowledge.

All benefits will be reinvested in the space to help more people.

The goal to reach is 92.000€

15.000 € Rent a commercial space, big enough to fit the machines safely, for a year.

22.000 € Commercial space sound and dust proofing and making it wheelchair accessible.

40.000 € Purchase of machinery and tools (expensive machinery I don´t have)

9.000 € Purchase of 4 workbenches, standard tables, cabinets, shelves and stools.

6.000 € Personal protective equipment, consumables and materials for all the courses and students.

What can you donate?

Your time – You don´t believe in donating money, but believe in the project.

5€ - I will drink one less beer this weekend with my friends.

25€ - I would like to buy some materials for people to enjoy.

50€ - I would like to buy some materials plus one hand tool for people to enjoy.

100€ - 300€ - I would like to sponsor a full course for someone.

Above 300€ - I would love to sponsor a machine for the space.

92.000€ - I love your project. Just do it!

What will I do with the money if I go over 92k€?

25K over – I will purchase a laser cutter. A versatile but expensive tool for prototyping. It will allow students to start their own little businesses easily.

50K over – I will hire an extra person to help me make this project self-sustainable faster.

75k over – I will be able to give free courses for everyone for a year, including materials and tools.

100k over– I will train someone in the space so they can start the same type of space in another city neighborhood.

Who am I? What a philosophical question, hahaha.

For the past 12 years, I have been working outside my country due to the job situation. During that time, I designed and developed new exciting products, which ended up patented or in the market.

Out of those 12 years, 5,5 I worked at New York University, in their Abu Dhabi campus, managing the Engineering Design Studio. I also created the Advanced Manufacturing Workshop from scratch, a space similar to what I want to start now. Managing budgets of more than 200K$ per year.

In these spaces, I mentored students, staff and faculty of different cultures and ages in designing, developing, prototyping and testing different products. As well as training them in the use and safety of many machines and tools.

Working with your hands has been proven to be therapeutic, and I would love to give everyone that option. I was lucky enough to have had woodworking as a hobby since I was seven myself.

I also really like to help people and watch them improve their knowledge and skills. I believe that is the purpose of life, whether with your blood or with strangers. Luckily for me, I found a way of helping people doing what I love the most. That is how this project came to be.

¿Cómo soluciono esto?

He decidido crear un taller comunitario en el centro de la ciudad de Valencia.

1 Dar a jóvenes y mayores cursos intensivos con los que puedan empezar diferentes manualidades. Previniendo o evitando así adicciones.

2 Crear un espacio para socializar, con acceso asequible a maquinaria y herramientas, para la gente que vive en pisos.

3 Ofrecer mentorización gratuita a jóvenes emprendedores, que quieran crear empresas que industrialicen una economía fuertemente centrada en servicios.

4 Permitir que cualquiera, especialmente jubilados con gran conocimiento de artesanías, enseñen a otras personas para no dudar sobre su utilidad en la sociedad.

5 Vender producto locales y de calidad realizados por los miembros y/o emprendedores del espacio.

¿Qué necesito de ti?

Suficiente para crear un espacio seguro para todos, que se integre en la ciudad sin ocasionar molestias.

Yo mismo donaré toda mi maquinaría y herramientas, efectivo para gastos operativos del espacio, mi tiempo y conocimientos.

Todos los beneficios serán reinvertidos en el espacio para ayudar a más gente.

El objetivo es alcanzar 92.000€

15.000€ Alquiler de un espacio comercial, lo suficientemente grande para usar las máquinas de forma segura, durante un año.

22.000€ Insonorización y aislamiento contra el serrín además de hacerlo accesible a personas con movilidad reducida.

40.000€ Maquinaria y herramientas (unidades extra y maquinaria que no poseo)

9.000€ Compra de 4 bancos de trabajo, mesas, armarios, estanterías y taburetes.

6.000€ Equipamiento de protección, consumibles y material para todos los cursos y estudiantes.

¿Qué puedes donar?

Tu tiempo – No creo en donar dinero, pero creo en el proyecto.

5€ - Beberé una cerveza menos el fin de semana con los amigos.

25€ - Me gustaría comprar algo de material para que la gente lo disfrute.

¿Qué haré con el dinero si supero los 92K€?

25k por encima – Comprare una cortadora laser. Una herramienta muy versátil para hacer prototipos, pero cara. Les permitirá a los estudiantes empezar sus propios negocios más fácilmente.

50K por encima – Contrataré a una persona extra, para hacer que el proyecto sea auto sostenible más rápido.

75K por encima – Seré capaz de dar cursos completamente gratis durante un año incluyendo materiales y herramientas.

100k por encima – Entrenaré a alguien en el espacio, para que puedan crear lo mismo en otro barrio de la ciudad.

¿Quién soy? Que pregunta más filosófica jajaja.

En los últimos 12 años he estado fuera de mi país por falta de trabajo. Durante ese tiempo he diseñado y desarrollado nuevos y excitantes productos, que han acabado patentados o en el mercado.

Afortunadamente para mí, he encontrado una forma de ayudar a la gente haciendo lo que amo y así es como surge el proyecto.
