Help Percy Get His Surgeries
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amy & my husband Angel and I rescued Percy from the Ventura County Animal Shelter on 10/16/22. On 10/1 /22 Percy was found on the side of Pacific Coast Highway by my friend Heidi. She saw his little body laying on the side of the road just a few feet past his brother who was also hit by a car but did not survive. Across the highway was a 3rd dog who also was struck by a car and was crushed. Percy survived. Heidi called animal services ( she stopped her 90 mile ride) and waited until Percy was picked up by animal services. She told me about Percy and we both began following up on Percy and his progress. I spoke with the vet at the shelter and she informed me that Percy had a simple complete fracture of both tibia and fubula and a pelvic and ischium fracture. She said that Gold Standard of treatment woukd be to take him to an orthopedic surgeon. We visited Percy in 10/14/22 and I knew he had to come with us and have the life he deserved. He came home on 10/16 and has been a perfect fit to our clan. He saw the Ortho vet on 10/19 ( which cost $1,576.00) and new X-rays were obtained and we were informed that the tib/fib are still mal unioned ( not healing in alignment ) and he also has an iliac wing fracture that requires surgery. The pelvic and ischium will heal on thier own. She re- splinted Percy. He may only need 1 surgery which would be $11,400 but if he needs 2 surgeries the total is $20, 200 which includes hospitalization from Sunday to Wednesday. This took my breath away. I knew adopting him would come with financial burdens and personal sacrifice with all his needs but how do you let a little dog with such a trajic history live in a shelter. Please help me help Percy!! And if I find out he only needs 1 surgery I will change the Amoy t we are trying to raise!
