Help Peter Adams Pay for a Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
Help support professional jazz pianist, composer, and piano instructor, Peter Adams, 36, on his quest for a living donor kidney! Peter Adams, (Blood Type: O Positive), who currently has no kidneys, is surviving each day on dialysis and desperately awaiting the gift of life from a living donor. Please help Peter to financially afford a kidney transplant, OR, if you are interested in becoming a living donor and giving Peter the gift of life, please see the first link at the bottom of the page. Peter is a well-known professional musician and piano instructor, and thus, does not have the financial safety net that most traditional careers provide. Peter has no sick leave, and when he is not well enough to perform or teach, he misses out on the income he needs to stay afloat, let alone, afford the exorbitant costs that come with kidney failure and home dialysis, and a future kidney transplant.

Peter was born with a rare birth defect called Cloacal Exstrophy and doctors were not certain Peter would survive. Peter was born in March, of 1987, and beat all the odds, becoming one of the first babies to ever survive this severe birth defect at the University of Washington Medical Center and Seattle Children's Hospital.

Peter has undergone dozens of surgeries throughout his life and even chose to have his left foot amputated as a young boy, due to it being severely underdeveloped and his leg being much shorter than the other. Peter has undergone procedure after procedure just to stay alive, and through it all, he has shared his music with the community and shared his love of music with countless young piano students, inspiring the next generation of future musicians.

At the age of 30, Peter was dealt another blow. His underdeveloped kidneys started to shut down and he was told he would need a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, no one in his family is a candidate and the quest for finding a living donor, which is Peter's best shot, has been arduous. Peter had a Cancer scare and chemotherapy at the start of the global pandemic, and a major exploratory abdominal surgery to make sure he was completely Cancer free. The following year, he endured another major surgery, a failed attempt, to remove his existing, deformed kidneys and bladder, (which was enlarged with stomach tissue as a baby and is now a high Cancer risk.) This is a requirement to receive a kidney transplant in his extremely one-of-a-kind case. Peter has dialysis 4 days a week; and recently underwent a successful 10-hour surgery at Virginia Mason in Seattle, with a team of surgeons, to remove his battered kidneys, and his high-risk bladder, and to chisel through decades of abdominal scar tissue to ready his body to receive a donor's kidney. Peter has been without kidneys now since February 1st, 2023, and continues performing music with his original jazz fusion band, Velocity, and his solo project, The Peter Adams Project. Through it all, Peter continues to teach lessons, in addition to performing, writing, and recording, and is a constant inspiration to his young piano students, fostering their love of music, lesson by lesson.

Peter’s best chance at life is receiving a healthy kidney from a living donor. Though Peter has a blood type of O Positive; his donor does not have to be a match if they fit the health requirements necessary to become a living donor. Through a donor-swapping program at Virginia Mason, Peter’s prospective donor could be the perfect match for another awaiting a kidney transplant, and, in turn, their prospective donor could be a perfect match for Peter. This swapping process enables many more people to find matches faster and for several recipients to get the gift of life all at the same time. Why a living donor kidney? Living donor kidneys last twice as long or more than deceased donor kidneys and it gives Peter’s medical team time to plan. All medical expenses incurred by the living donor fall under Peter’s medical plan. Peter is a young man and he needs his prospective donor kidney to go the distance, so he can live a long, healthy, full life! Please feel free to check out the Virginia Mason Living Donor page in the first link below for more information.

Peter is the most gentle, giving, and positively uplifting person. He has encouraged and inspired many children musically and so many others. He is also an extremely talented composer and arranger, which is evident in his many musical endeavors. Peter’s quiet perseverance and determination are unmatched and no matter how much he is struggling, Peter keeps moving forward and living his life as fully as he can and is truly inspirational to everyone he encounters.
