Widowed 20 Years, Petrona Lost Everything in a Fire—Help Her Rebuild

Today, our beloved housekeeper and friend, Petrona, lost everything she owned in a devastating house fire. Her home, which was already in poor condition, has been completely destroyed. Petrona is now left with nothing—no home, no clothing for herself, her children, or her grandchildren, and no food. What little she had is now gone.

Petrona recently celebrated her 62nd birthday. She's been a widow for 20 years, raising six children on her own and now caring for her grandchildren. Despite living in poverty in rural Guatemala, she has always worked tirelessly to provide for her family, going to church every day and praying for a miracle. But this is a tragedy no one could have expected.

Her home, made of adobe with dirt floors and a leaky metal roof, couldn't withstand the fire. Now, Petrona and her family have nothing—no shelter, no savings, and no way to rebuild without help. She was already struggling, having taken out a $10,000 loan at 30% interest just to access her home. She had tried to improve her situation by buying a Tuk Tuk to earn extra income, but it broke down, leaving her in more debt and little money to repay the loans.

Now, with her house burned to the ground, she's lost everything—just when she thought things couldn't get worse. Petrona has spent her life giving everything to others. She's the kindest, most honest person, and she needs our help to start over.
