Help Philip (Wynn) remain housed and fed
Donation protected
My name is Philip (or Wynn in casual settings). I live in Chittenden County, Vermont, USA - a relatively high-cost-of-living area. (Cost of living calculation as of first-quarter 2021 here, though this doesn't factor in the enormous amount of inflation we've seen over the last 12 months: https://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/50007)
I have been trying for months to find work that pays enough to survive, averaging 10-12 job applications per week and 1-2 interviews per week, but ultimately without success yet. I am now down to less than $600 to my name - which is enough to pay rent for the month of January (thanks to my awesome housemate who's giving me an amazing deal on rent) or to eat & pay other bills in January, but not both.
Unfortunately, due to the holidays most businesses aren't continuing their hiring until January - so at this point I need to ask for funds to get me through until I can continue seeking work. I have already had one interview that will contact me at some point in January to let me know if I got the job and another few jobs for which I've scheduled interviews in early- to mid-January, so hopefully one of those will come through for me. However, if I lose my housing or my ability to afford food prior to then, then even if those jobs are offered I won't easily be able to accept them (and there's such a housing shortage here that if I lose my housing I'll be very hard-pressed to get new housing, and even if I somehow do it'll surely cost far more than I'm paying now).
I have already applied for government assistance in multiple forms. The Vermont Department of Labor has been unable to do too much to assist; they sent me links to a bunch of resources, but many of them I'd already pursued and much of the remainder weren't especially helpful to my situation. I have also applied for 3SquaresVT (food stamps) but I'm awaiting a form that has been mailed to me, which I'll then need to get filled out and sent back; USPS being what it is, I have not yet even received the form after nearly a week, and realistically it could be a month or two before it gets fully processed. That's a problem, since pretty much all my remaining funds will be going to rent at the end of December, and after that I'm not sure I'll even be able to afford food.
Many people have reached out to me and offered $100 here, $50 there on an individual basis; I really, truly appreciate that but I am wary about accepting money on those terms, since if I don't have enough to meet my obligations then those donations would just be wasted (since I'd still be homeless, hungry, cold, etc.); that would just feel scummy. I am thus running this GFM, asking for $1,250 to help cover rent, food, phone bill, and other expenses for the next 6-7 weeks, until the end of January and maybe a bit into February. Hopefully by then I'll have been able to find work.
Homelessness or starvation in the heart of winter is not a super welcoming prospect, so any help anyone can provide would be immensely appreciated!
