Help Phyllis Yankey After Hurricane Beryl Destroyed Her Home

Donation protected
Hey y’all.

My name is Chris Yankey. I am here on behalf of my mother, Phyllis Yankey. This morning (7/8/24), as Hurricane Beryl ripped through her neighborhood in Conroe, Texas, a tree fell and destroyed her home. Thankfully, she is safe and was away visiting my sister in Kentucky during the storm. Because of some now heartbreaking issues with the insurance companies, her home was not covered and she will receive no reimbursement, making the home a total loss. Her life savings have now been destroyed. She has lost everything and won’t be able to recover from this event financially without our help.

Who this is for:

Phyllis, my amazing 73 year old mom, has been on her own since my dad Mike passed in 2009. She was excited to build a new life in Texas right next door to my brother, his wife, and their children. We were working to update the house to be her forever home and a place to call her own.

Ways to help:

  • If you are able to help financially. Phyllis needs you now
  • Continue to pray for the safety of our family and the communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl

Where the money goes:

We set the goal at $250,000 since she'll receive no insurance money from this disaster.

I know this is a lot of money but even if we do not reach this goal, every single dollar will help secure her future and provide for her needs.

Funds raised will be used to repair her home, if possible, or purchase new housing if needed. All funds will be distributed directly to Phyllis.

As the days go on, we will post updates as additional information comes through. We are focused on helping cover her costs and if specific needs come through we will let you know.

Many of you know Phyllis and the impact she has made in every community she has been a part of and served in. From Georgia, where she and my late father came to know Jesus and began to feel called into ministry, all the way to Alaska, Oregon, North Carolina, Kentucky, and all the places in between where God used her and my dad to build the Kingdom, serve, and love everyone around them.

Phyllis has spent her life serving people. Her and my dad entered full time ministry in the early 90s at Solid Rock Bible Camp in Soldotna, AK. Since then, every move, every job, every trip has been centered around where they felt God call them, no matter the cost.

I’m reminded of the countless times her and my dad have worked to meet the needs of strangers, friends and those in need. In her role as the regional director of child evangelism fellowship in Alaska, she organized good news clubs to share the gospel with vulnerable children across Alaska. During that time, she tirelessly poured into the lives of hundreds of teenagers through Christian youth in action camps where she equipped teens to share the gospel.

Since my dad passed away, she has been comforting other women dealing with the loss of husbands and loved ones.

In 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. But not even that slowed her down for long. She got back to work immediately leading women’s ministry at VAST Church in Sisters, OR. Living just down the street from the house where she lived with my dad when he died, God was using her to bring life into that town and touch the lives of the women in that town.

She is truly a remarkable woman and she needs all of us right now.

We, her family, are able to cover her short term needs, including lodging and other immediate necessities, but she will need your help to recover from this.

Phyllis is tough and rarely asks for help. But she needs you now.
